Fanny packs used to be the “in” thing in the 90s! I mean, it was still deemed as an “old person thing”, but it’s 2019 now and the fanny pack is back and here to STAY! In the 90s, I was in Korea so I don’t know how y’all wore it in America, but fanny packs swept the nation in Korea, mainly by old ah-jum-mas (old ladies).

I think this one KPOP group called H.O.T. wore some fluffy ones. If you don’t know who they are, you must find out here. They are one of the OG KPOP bands. Like BlackPink and BTS ain’t got nothing on these guys.

Needless to say, Fanny Packs are back and they are making a strong return. You can find them in almost every store like Urban Outfitters, Forever 21, or even your local thrift store. They can be clear, denim, sparkly, etc. So obviously, I chose the sparkly one because glitter is my FAVORITE color.

So how do you style something this “extra?” Well, I paired it with a tweed skirt, a two-seasons-ago tie crop, and this beret from Valfre. In my opinion, part of maximalism is really going ALL OUT with one thing. I usually pick one bold item (i.e., texture, print, color) and try to emphasize on that. Today, I tried to maximize the number of textures. The glitter fanny pack really added the POP that this outfit needed.

Well here my three tips on how to style a fanny pack:

  • Across the body: Obviously, this is an easy one. You just wear it across with any outfits like this one. I think the hard thing is to find the right color and texture fanny, but if you got the right fanny, it can either make or break your outfit.
  • High waist: In my opinion, this is pretty “normal” but it looks SO WEIRD when I do it. If you are going to do it, you can pair it with a cute slip dress to show off your curves OR do it with jeans.
  • As a purse: I’ve seen people actually carry around their fanny pack on one shoulder like a purse and I LOVE it. It’s such an unconventional way of wearing a fanny that I think it makes it acceptable.
