Today on #skincaresaturday, Melissa talks about lip products to maintain healthy and luscious lips.
Now today’s post doesn’t really cover the skin per se, but more of your lips are part of your face, right? I know that I get issues with chapped lips during drier months and living in such a tropical climate, it definitely took some time for me to figure out what Chapstick worked best for me all year round. For some odd reason, my go to Burt’s Bees wasn’t cutting it in Hawaii so I needed something more nourishing.
I figured we’d take a break from facial products and focus on the pucker. I know being at home, some of you have probably been on social media more often than normal, and I don’t know about you, I keep seeing photos of luscious lips and it just makes me think that lips are sometimes overlooked and yet so sensitive and need that extra care. Even if it’s just lathering on a sleeping mask specifically for lips at night or even doing a scrub once in a while. Also, it makes me think, damn, I wish I had voluptuous lips. But that’s another story and if you’ve read Stacey’s post on the effects of social media, then you would know what I’m talking about. Side note, I got my Tata Harper Retinol Facial Oil in the mail today so I will definitely be updating you in about two weeks about my progress! Happy Reading ☺
Here are the best lip products that I’ve used and definitely has worked:
Glossier is pretty popular and super affordable for how amazing all of their products are. What’s amazing is that the company started off pretty small and has expanded in to make up and added more to their inventory ever since they came into the beauty scene. But their balm dotcom is one product that I have stuck with and fell in love with. It’s a hydrating lip balm that’s packed with antioxidants and natural emollients that help nourish dry, chafed skin and comes in original or seven flavors.
My personal favorite is mint, but I also love their mango and their berry. Especially if you want a little bit of tint. I did try their birthday cake flavor and it was ok, but I always, ALWAYS go back to mint. It’s got heavy-duty moisturizers like castor oil, beeswax and lanolin. A little of this product goes a long way and it’s dense texture stays in place and helps seal in moisture. So your lips feel instantly moisturized, smooth, and smothered in a minty kiss of goodness ☺. Balm Dot Com comes in Glossier’s super cute packaging and stickers that you can put on the tube to help customize and add a little extra cuteness to your makeup bag. I usually buy these in a pack of three because it saves you a little cash money, but definitely feel free to try out a tube, it lasts a long time and you won’t regret it!
A part of my heart goes out to Laniege because one, it’s a K-Beauty brand and I can remember seeing it and using it growing up in South Korea and two, Chloe Kim (2018 Gold Medal winner and the youngest woman to win an Olympic snowboarding gold medal, NBD) is an ambassador for this brand.
I definitely recommend this brand for your late teens and early 20’s. It’s affordable, simple cute packaging, and works in a very simple system (cleanser, toner, moisturizer). This lip sleeping mask first came on the scene with one option of flavor and I believe it was the pink one. It now has multiple flavors but I really enjoy this one. Because it’s not overpowering and I love seeing the color and texture of the lip sleeping mask change when I start to rub it in to my lips. It provides a little bit of tint and while it seems like a bold pink, it becomes an opaque once you spread it around. Sometimes I even use this in the morning after I put on my daily makeup to just provide extra moisture and a hint of color to my lips. It makes your lips feel supple and quickly absorbs in to your lips. This lip sleeping mask is enriched with vitamin C and antioxidants. A Berry Mix ComplexTM which comprises a fragrant blend of raspberry, strawberry, cranberry, and blueberry extracts gives it a lovely scent. It also has an exclusive Moisture WrapTM technology that boasts hyaluronic acid and minerals to help form a protective film over the lips. Which, I guess makes sense why your lips feel moisturized and plump when you put this lip sleeping mask on. So even though it says sleeping, it’s definitely something you can use in the mornings or even throughout the day if your lips need extra love.
I love Bite Beauty. I love their lip products and I love that they expanded in to lip care. This product is a part of their Agave+ line and omg, let me tell you – while I like to use the Balm Dot Com for my day to day, I lather Bite Beauty’s Agave+ Nighttime Vegan Lip Therapy on my lips at night. It feels heavier than Balm Dot Com but not in a bad way, I mean it is a lip sleeping mask so you should expect something a little heavier than your day to day moisturizer.
It’s a hydrating lip sleeping mask that’s packaged in a simple container of decadent, balm-to-oil formula that has a subtle scent and makes your lips feel extra supple and nourished. Balm Dot Com gives you a smothering of moisture, this is like a full on cuddle and you won’t look back type of lip moisturizer. This amazing balm-to-oil lip sleeping mask has agave nectar to help soothe and nurture your lips, as well as jojoba, sunflower, and safflower seed oils that help seal in moisture all night long. I swear, I feel like my lips look as if they got injections because of how supple this lip sleeping mask makes them feel. It also comes with a little spoon to help scoop out a little bit of product and while it’s doesn’t seem like much, a little goes a long way and one little container of this lip sleeping mask will last you forever. There’s some nights where I like to lather it on when I feel like my lips are thirsty AF.
I hope you guys enjoyed reading my suggestions on lip products. Fun fact, it’s always good to take product out of the containers with clean hands. If you have clean little spoons around, use those as well. Regardless, make sure you use clean hands or cleans spoons when you’re taking product out of it’s container. This prevents germs and bacteria transferring from your fingers to the product and possibly ruining the rest of the product.
Let me know what you think and if you will or have tried any of these products!
