Welcome to another episode of On the Fly Friyay (aka: OTFF), where we talk about all things outdoors and entice you with my fishing tales. #oowee
This weekend, we totally rocked it, catching 8 fish and 4 different species! Where did we go? Where we usually go – Whidbey Island! Usually, I wouldn’t give up my fishing spot, but I’ll give it away anyway for this post because this spot is closed for the season.
The place I’ve been fishing is Possesion Point, Whidbey Island. The area is very clean, not a lot of people, and limited parking area. As mentioned in my previous blogs, I’m just way happier when there is less people in my fishing bubble. I don’t have to “battle fish,” (battle fishing is when you are literally right next to each other), which is a bonus.
Another bonus is that you really get to meet some interesting people who are there to truly enjoy nature and fish. I know that sounds very “woo woo,” but it’s true! We met a guy who gave us some tips on what we should be using. He also showed us his giant coho salmon he caught, so I stopped and listened to what he had to say. At the end of our convo, he gave us one of his lures that he was using and it was pretty amazing how fast we were catching fish shortly there after.
So what did we catch? We got some flounder, baby silver salmon, trout, and HELLA sculpin. Apparently, they live in rivers, submarine canyons, kelp forests, and shallow littoral habitat types, such as tide pools (thank you wikipedia). When the tide is rising, there is a lot of kelp forests, so that shows why I was catching so many of them!
